The Western Australian (WA) Government has selected Italian industrial group Salini Impregilo-NRW joint venture (JV) as the preferred respondent for its $2bn Forrestfield Airport Rail Link project in Perth.
The JV was selected from a shortlist of three tenderers to design, construct and maintain the $2bn state government-funded Forrestfield-Airport Link, which will connect Forrestfield to the city and open up Perth’s eastern suburbs to the rail network for the first time.

Cliamed to be the solution to improve transport connections to and from Perth Airport, the eastern suburbs and regional centres, the rail link will connect with the existing Midland line near Bayswater Station and will run to Forrestfield through underground tunnels.
WA transport minister Dean Nalder said that the public transport authority of WA will start negotiations with Salini Impregilo-NRW JV in order to finalise the deal by May.
Nalder said: "We’re at the cutting edge, because for the first time, we’re getting serious about taking public transport underground in Perth."
"We envisage the contractor will mobilise on-site in the coming months."

By GlobalDataThe WA state parliament passed the Forrestfield Airport Rail Link Bill last year, and forward works site for service relocations at the Forrestfield station started in December.
Nalder added: "The state government has a proud track record of investing in important transport infrastructure projects and I look forward to another eventful year on this landmark project."
Slated to open in 2020, the 8.5km rail line construction project will start by the end of this year.
