NCC Infrastructure has been selected by Swedish Transport Administration to construct the central station phase of West Link project in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Transport Administration has allocated SEK3bn ($361.7m) for the phase and under the contract, NCC will build an underground commuter train station north of Gothenburg Central Station and around 2km of railway tunnels.

It will also perform the contract under a Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) model, collaborating with the Transport Administration for project planning and cost optimisation.
NCC Infrastructure’s business area manager Svante Hagman said: "We are really positive to the fact that the Transport Administration has decided to procure this project as an Early Contractor Involvement contract.
"We have previously worked in close cooperation on large-scale tunnel projects such as the City Tunnel in Malmö and the Stockholm City Line, which has given us valuable experience in terms of sustainable technical solutions and the use of leading-edge technology in civil engineering works."
As part of the assignment, NCC will construct a railway tunnel from the E6 Highway in the east.

By GlobalDataIn addition, a rock tunnel through the Lejonet redoubt will be built, as well as further works towards the west up to the Gothenburg Opera House, which is a section of nearly 2km. The project may also include a bridge over the E6 Highway.
Construction is expected to begin in 2018 and the project is scheduled to continue until 2026. It aims to increase capacity on the Gothenburg network by changing the Gothenburg Central Station from a terminus to an underground transit station.
