TransPennine Express (TPE) has awarded a €40m contract to Alstom to provide maintenance services to two fleets of 25 new five-car trains.
TPE is the intercity rail operator for the North of England and Scotland. Under the deal, Alstom will maintain the 25 TPE trains from the beginning of their commercial service in 2019, through to 2024.

Alstom will carry out the works at its Manchester, Liverpool, and Glasgow maintenance facilities in England, generating 25 new permanent jobs at these sites.
The project will also provide new training and apprenticeship opportunities to be delivered by Alstom’s recently created Widnes Technology Centre.
TransPennine Express managing director Leo Goodwin said: "This will enable us to transform the customer experience over the life of our franchise and our new train fleets will form a key part of this improvement.
"Whether travelling to work, for business or leisure, our services are going to offer more seats, improved connectivity and a higher standard of comfort. The on-board experience will be second to none and we will provide customers with a real alternative to the car and congested road network."

By GlobalDataThe two fleets will comprise 12 five-car Civity UK Intercity electric trains and 13 five-car Intercity diesel trains respectively, and will accommodate an additional 13 million passengers a year.
TPE will run the electric trains between Manchester and Liverpool to Glasgow and Edinburgh, while the diesel trains will initially serve the regions between Liverpool and Newcastle.
