Switzerland-based Stadler has won a Skr2bn ($240m) order from Stockholm County Council’s Traffic Committee to provide 22 three-car electric multiple-units (EMU).
Once delivered, the EMUs will be deployed on the 891mm gauge Roslagsbanan network to the north-east of Stockholm, Sweden.

The order also includes options for an additional 45 sets.
The newly ordered EMUs will be delivered from 2020, with a plan to enter service the following year.
When operational, the new 100km/h X15P trains will complement the existing fleet of 101 EMU cars currently in-use on Roslagsbanan.
Bombardier, Vossloh, CAF and Pesa also took part in the bidding of the contract.

Stlockholm Transport CEO Caroline Ottosson was quoted by International Railway Journal as saying: “The investment in new trains is absolutely necessary for us to be able to run more frequent trains.
“Competition in the procurement was good and we are satisfied with the result. Stadler submitted the best bid in terms of price and quality.”
In 2010, Stlockholm’s regional transport authority Storstockholms Lokaltrafik adopted an expansion plan with an aim to bring more frequent commuter services on the northern line to Vallentuna.
In addition, a new depot will be built at Molnby, and as far as Åkersberga on the eastern branch to Österskär, according to railjournal.com.
The expansion will require a larger rolling stock fleet, double-tracking and infrastructure upgrades, which will enable faster travel on the route.
