Network Rail has opened two-thirds of the new concourse at London Bridge Station, UK, as part of a major redevelopment programme.
The extensive upgrades began four years ago and are due for completion in 2018. The concourse has been constructed by Network Rail’s construction partner Costain.

Once finished, passengers will benefit from an expanded station, with the new concourse being the size of a football pitch.
Network Rail chief executive Mark Carne said: “This is a big step towards the bigger, better railway passengers deserve.
“The opening of two-thirds of the concourse marks a major milestone in the redevelopment of London Bridge and, while there is plenty still to do, I am pleased passengers can now see the benefits beginning to come through.
“We are essentially rebuilding Britain’s fourth busiest station, the tracks, the platforms and the infrastructure, which enables trains to run, while keeping the station open and doing our best to keep passengers moving.”

By GlobalDataLondon Bridge Station redevelopment has been carried out by Costain under a £400m deal that also features NG Bailey and WS, reported Construction News.
Furthermore, Network Rail is straightening tracks on the approaches to London Bridge to cut the time trains wait for platforms to become available and reduce delays.
The redevelopment is part of Network Rail’s railway upgrade plan and the government-sponsored Thameslink programme, which will also feature upgraded trains.
