Stockholm's public transport organisation Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) has deployed new surveillance solutions on buses, trains, trams and stations to help protect passengers from pickpocketing and other crimes.
Following deployment of more than 22,000 Axis security cameras, SL witnessed a 25% reduction in crime and a 60% drop in thefts.

Stockholm Public Transport system manager Kicki Roos said: “The cameras need to be easy-to-install, scalable, based on an open standard, future-proof and adaptable to tomorrow’s technology.
“Axis security cameras help us to achieve this. They have excellent image quality and are durable, reliable and easy-to-handle, providing great support in our efforts to combat crime and vandalism.”
The reduction in these criminal acts is favourable when compared with the 5% rise in crime logged by the UK's Transport for London (TfL) during the second quarter of this year.

By GlobalDataWith the new technology in place, SL can perform surveillance 24 hours a day in central Stockholm through image optimisation algorithms.
Axis Communications Northern Europe regional director Atul Rajput said: “For optimal security within transportation, cameras must provide a reliable, detailed overview of large areas and the commuters within them, as well as a wide angle designed to eliminate blind spots.
