Canadian National Railway (CN) and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference – Conductors, Trainpersons and Yardpersons (TCRC-CTY) have reached a tentative agreement ahead of an imminent strike deadline.
The arrangement will see the renewal of labour contracts for about 3,000 CN conductors and yard operations employees across Canada.

The terms are yet to be ratified by the TCRC members, as the process is expected to take roughly 60 days.
CN executive vice-president and chief operating officer Mike Cory said: "CN is very pleased to have reached this settlement with TCRC-CTY without a service disruption.
“This new agreement reinforces CN's commitment to working together with our employees and their representatives to address workplace issues in a mutually beneficial manner.”
The union previously announced plans to launch a strike on 30 May after CN announced new work rules that were intended to replace the expired contract, reported Reuters.

By GlobalDataMany commodities, including grains and potash, are transported to various ports using CN and / or Canadian Pacific Railway network and a strike would have severely affected these shipments, thereby increasing operating costs.
Retail importers would also have been negatively affected, in addition to the automotive industry.
CN noted that it transports over C$250bn ($185bn) worth of goods annually for a number of diverse business sectors.
CN serves the cities and ports of Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax and New Orleans connecting all major locations in North America, along with its operating railway subsidiaries.
