Swiss intermodal transport company Hupac has contracted Siemens to supply eight Vectron MS locomotives, which will operate on the RhineAlpine Corridor (DACHINL).
The multisystem trains will be built at the Siemens' German plant in Munich-Allach, with deliveries expected to start from early next year.

Vectron MS locomotives have a maximum output of 6.4MW and are capable to run at a maximum speed of 160km/h. They will be equipped with national train control systems and the European Train Control System (ETCS).
Hupac managing director Bernard Kunz said: “With this investment in Vectron locomotives, we can more efficiently serve the Rhine-Alpine Corridor through the internationally integrated traction.”
The company and its partners intend to expand their rail transport service from central European hubs with the new locomotives, including the Rotterdam logistics centre through the main rail corridors between the Netherlands, Austria, Germany and Switzerland and into the Mediterranean region.
The additional trains will also allow various transport operators associated with Hupac to serve the European economic regions north and south of the Alps via the new Gotthard Base Tunnel.
