Engineering and management consulting company Arcadis has been appointed by the UK's Network Rail as a Programme Partner (Systems) in its Digital Railway team under a new 12 month contract.

Arcadis will help to devise the Digital Railway programme in partnership with engineering group Ramboll as part of the deal.

The companies will deliver a range of services such as technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, and business change and industry training. as well as engineering, asset, data, project and risk management support.

The contract includes an option for a two-year extension.

Arcadis will have the responsibility to develop Digital Railway Toolkit as a partner in the programme.

The toolkit specifies the set of requirements, processes, competency and training requirements that will help to implement the Digital Railway on multiple strategic routes across the network.

Arcadis will work with the route teams, train and freight operating companies, rolling stock companies and other stakeholders to develop candidate schemes for digital rail.

The digital modernisation of the network includes the replacement of fixed lineside signals with in-cab signalling.

Arcadis will collaborate with the Ramboll team, which has been a delivery partner on the Danish re-signalling programme to execute the task, and is expected leverage its experience across Europe to assist in the project.

Arcadis also noted that it will assist in setting up the Digital Railway Academy that will identify future training and supply chain requirements.
