Melbourne Metro Rail Authority has awarded a A$11bn ($8.4bn) contract to the Cross Yarra Partnership for the construction of a metro rail tunnel project in Australia.

The agreement will see the contractor build five underground stations and two tunnels spanning a total distance of 9km.

"CRRC Puzhen Bombardier Transportation Systems (PBTS) has secured a $270m rail contract to supply railcars to Wuhu City in Anhui Province, China."

Cross Yarra Partnership will also be responsible for the maintenance of the infrastructure for a 25-year period under the deal.

The construction will start in 2018 and is scheduled for completion by 2026.

A joint venture between Bombardier Transportation and CCRC known as CRRC Puzhen Bombardier Transportation Systems (PBTS) has secured a $270m rail contract to supply railcars to Wuhu City in Anhui Province, China.

PBTS is set to deliver 240 railcars and the Bombardier Innovia Monorail 300 system to Wuhu City as part of the deal.

Romania’s national railway infrastructure operator CFR has awarded a €40m ($47.5m) deal to the Asocierea RailWorks consortium for signalling and electrification works along the Ilteu-Gurasada line.

The contract will involve the renovation of a 22.34km section of railway to allow trains to operate at a speed of 160km/h, as well as the installation of the ATLAS 200 ERTMS Level 2 train control system and GSM-R telecommunications system.
