The £35m resignalling deal includes the design, manufacture, installation and testing of the signalling scheme, which will include two new Westlock interlocking interfaced at the West of Scotland Signalling Centre. The company will also be responsible for civils, telecoms, control centre, Ole and Way subcontractors.
Invensys Rail delivery director (north) Richard Cooper said the company is delighted to have been awarded this contract which will see a new generation of signalling introduced to control the Glasgow south suburban lines.
"The project follows a long period of successful delivery by Invensys Rail on major infrastructure programmes across Scotland, including Glasgow Central Interlocking Renewal, Edinburgh Waverley, Airdrie to Bathgate, Glasgow Central Platforms and Paisley Corridor Improvements," Cooper said.
"We’re now looking forward to working closely with our colleagues from Network Rail and the other sub-contractors to deliver another first class project."
Glasgow south suburban resignalling (GSSR) area includes the Cathcart Signal Box area, the East Kilbride branch lines and the Barrhead lines from the West of Scotland Signalling Centre. Resignalling will be implemented in both electrified and non-electrified branches and commuter lines.
Under the contract, Invensys will deliver 177 signalling equivalent units, 211 new axle head counter fitments, 88 new location cases, two new relocatable equipment buildings and 45km of new cable route and demolition of the Cathcart Signal Box and Busby Junction Relay Room.
Invensys Rail noted the deal will help deliver enhanced signalling to control the Glasgow south suburban lines.
The main signalling installation phase of the GSSR programme is scheduled to begin in March 2012 with works continuing until the final commissioning in April 2013. Previously, the company had secured a contract to carry out Thameslink Key Output 2 signalling framework.
It was also selected as the secondary contractor in the Central East, Wessex, Surrey and Sussex, Great Western Main Line Inner and Great Western Mainline Outer areas.
