Train manufacturer Bombardier Transportation has unveiled the new Innovia Metro 300 design for the Riyadh Metro Orange line in Saudi Arabia.
As part of Ansaldo STS-led consortium Arriyadh New Mobility Group, Bombardier will deliver 47 two-car Innovia Metros for the project.
Earlier this year, the consortium received a $5.2bn contract to build trains and deliver equipment for the Orange line.
Bombardier Transportation Systems EMEA vice-president Philippe Casgrain said: "When public transit is attractive and reliable, then all socio-economic groups can be encouraged to move from road to rail.
"The appealing design of the driverless Innovia Metro 300 vehicles for Riyadh Metro is complemented by proven Bombardier technologies to provide fast, safe and comfortable travel for Riyadh’s citizens for many years to come."
Equipped with Mitrac rotary motor propulsion, the new train is expected to offer short travel times, high acceleration performance and train braking energy recovery.
