MAN Engines is set to deliver 162 D2676 LE264 diesel engines to French rail vehicle manufacturer Alstom.

The company has already delivered the first of the six-cylinder in-line engines, which feature a capacity of 353kW (480hp) at 1,800rpm.

The engines are to be installed in the Coradia Polyvalent diesel railcars.

MAN's D2676 LE264 engines have been optimised for use in hot climates as they are capable of operating at high temperatures, as well as sandy and dusty locations. They will be installed on the roof of the railcars to facilitate easier maintenance.

The new deal will see 17 railcars belonging to the Algerian national rail company SNTF equipped with 102 MAN engine units. These railcars will be used to connect major cities across the country.

Additionally, the remaining 60 engines will be installed in 15 railcars intended for use in Senegal to connect the new airport with Dakar city.

The first D2676 LE264-equipped Coradia Polyvalent railcars are expected to start operating from 2018 in Algeria.

Coradia Polyvalent railcars are able to attain a maximum speed of 160km/h and are available in three different variants: three, four or six cars, with a seating capacity ranging from 162 to 366 seats depending on the model.

Alstom has developed electric or dual-mode version of this design with three possible traction voltages: 25kV 50Hz, 1,500V DC and cross-border versions.
