The contract includes the supply of 468 metro cars to build 52 nine-car train sets in order to replace the aging MR-63 fleet and optimise service.
Bombardier ‘s share is estimated at $725m while Alstom has a share of $482m.
The new cars will leverage new propulsion and traction system technologies and other environmentally friendly technologies, and will include open gangways, optimal seating arrangements, electronic passenger information systems and new security features.
The design, manufacture and final assembly of the new Montreal metro cars will be undertaken in at Bombardier’s units in La Pocatiere and Saint-Bruno in Quebec, and at Alstom’s sites in Sorel-Tracy and Montreal.
The first prototype train will arrive in June 2013, followed by the base order deliveries between February 2014 and September 2018.
