German national rail operator Deutsche Bahn (DB) has awarded a €200m ($272m) contract to Canadian firm Bombardier to supply 48 Talent 2 trains.

DB has now ordered a total of 176 similar trains, based on the 2007 deal with Bombardier to supply up to 321 trains.

The fleet includes 26 three-car and 22 five-car vehicles, featuring Bombardier’s Mitrac propulsion and control system, and will be delivered between 2011 and 2012.

Beginning from December 2011, the trains will be used by DB Regio on the Berlin-Brandenburg transport network including capital city Berlin’s new airport.
