Finnish engineering firm Pöyry will modernise a 113km railway line between the cities of Seinäjoki and Kaskinen, under a new deal with the Finnish Rail Administration.

The $2.28m (€1.6m) contract involves preparation of railway track and the construction plan, and includes works such as removal of level crossings and revamp of warning devices as well as the railway superstructure.

The project is aimed at removing the speed limits for freight traffic on the railway line and improving rail traffic safety.

The planning is expected to begin before the end of 2009 and finish in 2011.
