BNSF Railway Company has been named as one of the top surface transportation suppliers for climate change disclosure by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

CDP, which involves 475 institutional investors with $55tn in assets under management, examines companies’ approaches towards climate change disclosure.

The American freight railroad company is part of the CDP’s Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index within FTSE Global 500 Index and S&P 500 Index.

BNSF was the only railroad to be included in either CDP Leadership Index.

PricewaterhouseCoopers has compiled the indices, which function as an evaluation tool for institutional investors.

Both leadership indices are important elements in CDP’s annual S&P 500 Report and Global 500 Report.

These reports recognise those companies in the S&P 500 Index and FTSE Global 500 Index that have adopted the best method to corporate governance for climate change disclosure practices.

BNSF chairman, president and CEO Matthew K.Rose said that BNSF is concentrating on the possible effects of climate change and the company’s role in safeguarding the environment.
