South Korean firm Hyundai Rotem has rolled out the first of 50 unmanned Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) for the new Busan-Gimhae rail line.

The rail line, which runs from Busan Sasang to Gimhae Shinmyung, is expected to cut travel times between the two cities by an hour and is scheduled to enter service in April 2011.

The 300-passenger-capacity vehicle uses a wireless communication control system and the ATC/ATO driving system, which can operate without a driver.

The contract for the 50-vehicle fleet, awarded by Busan Gimhae Line Corporation in 2006, includes devices for signalling, communication, mechanics and automation as well as the electric and mechanical system engineering.
