The Indian Government has allocated Rs200,000 crore (approximately $41bn) worth of funds for metro rail expansion across the country over the next ten years.
Besides the ongoing or planned metro projects in the cities of Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai, new projects will be undertaken in eight more cities.
These cities include Pune, Lucknow, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Ludhiana, Kochi, Indore and Chandigarh.
The announcement was been made by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which is currently building the capital city New Delhi’s metro rail system.
