Spanish firm Ferrovial, BAM Nutall and Kier have teamed up to jointly bid for UK company Crossrail Limited’s recently announced tunnelling contracts.

This comes a week after Balfour Beatty, Morgan Est and Vinci Construction and Austria’s Beton- und Monierbau announced forming a joint venture to bid for the same work.

The new consortium will submit a bid in September for the £1.9bn worth of contracts which are part of the £16bn Crossrail project.

The result of the bidding process is expected to be announced by the first half of 2010.

The two tunnelling contracts include boring two 6.2m internal diameter tunnels – one 6.2km from Royal Oak to Farringdon and another 8.3km tunnel from Limmo to Farringdon.
