The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver in the US has received the first of 55 SD160 light rail vehicles from Siemens.
The vehicles will be used on the under-construction West Corridor, I-225 Corridor, Southeast and Southwest extensions as part of the RTD’s new FasTracks transit programme.
The rest of the vehicles will be delivered over the next 18 months, where they will be tested out of service over 2,500 miles to ensure safety and functionality.
The vehicles were ordered by the RTD in 2007.
The FasTracks programme includes construction of 122 miles of commuter rail and light rail across the RTD’s service area of the Denver Metropolitan area.
