Swedish capital Stockholm’s transport firm SL has awarded an SEK525m (approximately $73m) contract to NCC Construction Sweden to build a 1.7km rail line on the country’s Tvärbanan light rail system .

The line forms the third stretch of the rail system’s Alvik-Solna section between Ankdammsgatan and Solna station.

The contract includes civil engineering work such as landscaping, underground and structural work for the link and foundations for stations.

The line is part of the ongoing Tvärbanan light rail expansion project, which will see the network expanded by nearly 7km.

Once completed, the expansion will allow passengers to travel between Alvik and Solna Station in just 15 minutes.
