The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) in India has announced that the ongoing 33km metro rail project in the city will be completed by September 2012.

The Rs6,395 crore project involves building a two-corridor network.

The first corridor will run from east to west linking Mysore Road with Deepanjali Nagar while the second corridor will run from north to south linking Yeshwanthpur with Jayanagar.

Once completed, the network will allow passengers to travel from one corridor to another in 28–30 minutes.

The trains will carry 40,000 people at peak hour peak direction traffic.

The service is expected to cater to 1,020,000 passengers in 2012, with this number expected to reach 1,972,000 by 2021.

BMRCL said the rail will initially run every 4 minutes which will be reduced to 3 minutes per schedule in the future.
