The Minnesota Department of Transportation in the US is seeking $382m in federal stimulus money for four of its rail projects.

Out of the total requested money, the state plans to invest the biggest share of $150m for the Northstar Phase II line from Minneapolis to St Cloud passenger rail service.

Another $137m is planned to build a multimodal transit hub at the St Paul Union Depot, including the project’s final design work and construction.

A grant of $50m will be for the Chicago-Milwaukee-Twin Cities passenger rail corridor project, including environmental documentation, preliminary engineering and design work.

The last request of $45m is for the Northern Lights Express intercity rail line between Duluth and Minneapolis.

The department says it will consider two more requests for federal money for high-speed intercity rail next year.
