US rail authorities have received funds to improve rail infrastructure across the country.
The US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant of $909.4m will be used for maintenance and upgrades at rail stations in Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington and Denver.
The Chicago Transit Authority will receive $240.2m to purchase new equipment, construct new facilities, repair and upgrade transit systems and install safety and security equipment.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will get $225.1m to upgrade Metro Rail and Metro Bus facilities and equipment and replace fiber optic equipment in the rail system.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will get $17.7m to implement a track pad/shock absorber rehabilitation programme, purchase and install emergency tunnel carts and storage cabinets and expand the agency’s chemical sensor detection.
In addition, The Denver Regional Transportation District will receive $18.6m to design and construct Denver Union station.
