Germany’s Bombardier Transportation has displayed its new FLEXITY 2 tram and ECO4 portfolio of eco-active technologies at the World Congress and Exhibition of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) in Vienna, Austria, June 7–11, 2009.

The FLEXITY 2 tram is a development of Bombardier’s FLEXITY modular tram platform with 100% low-floor technology and conventional wheel-set bogies.

The new model will have additional features like improved carbody concept, better corrosion protection, improved cab structure and air-conditioning system, a unique driver’s cab and the second generation of BOMBARDIER MITRAC traction equipment.

The train is equipped with low-noise FLEXX Urban 3000 bogie for passenger comfort, easy access to trams and lowers costs for operators by using proven wheel sets and drive technologies.

As an option, it can also be equipped with the new BOMBARDIER PRIMOVE system which allows catenary-free and contactless operation, offering a new solution for tram networks in historic cityscapes.

In addition, it showcases exchangeable front modules and a flexible interior design with possibilities for customisation.

The ECO4 portfolio of energy-saving applications will help balance the energy, efficiency, economy and ecology.
The portfolio includes BOMBARDIER EBI Drive 50 Driver Assistance System, PRIMOVE catenary-free operation, MITRAC Energy Saver and CITYFLO 650 communication-based train control.
