Engineering consultancy service provider Hyder Consulting has won a contract from Mass Transit Railway (MTR) to design lineside electrical and mechanical services for the HK$39.5bn Express Rail Link in Hong Kong.

The line starting at an underground terminus in West Kowloon will run underground for 26km to the boundary with mainland China at Huanggang.

After crossing the boundary, the mainland section of the route will then run 116km north through Shenzhen to Guangzhou.

The tunnel featuring an emergency rescue station and stabling sidings at Shek Kong in the New Territories will commence in 2015.

The trains on the Express Rail Link will cover the distance from Kowloon to Guangzhou in 48 minutes with a speed of 200–300kmph.
