Changchun Railway Vehicles Co (CRC) is constructing a $26.3m manufacturing base for high-speed trains in the Northeastern Jilin province to meet China’s growing need for speedy railway transport.

The annual production capacity of the base includes 500 ordinary passenger train cars, 800 China Railway high-speed (CRH) train cars, and 800 intra-city train cars.

The cars with a speed of 350kmph for the new Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail trains will be built in the base by October 2010.

The manufacturing base will include a test centre and R&D laboratory.

The base is expected to be completed by June 2010.

CRC will work with France’s Alsthom and Germany’s Siemens to design and produce the trains.
