TEgyptian National Railways has commissioned the first 15 of 40 Class 66 JT42CWRM diesel-electric locomotives in Cairo.
The JT42CWRM locomotives are equipped with 12-cylinder 12N-710G3B engines, and EM2000 microprocessor controls which provide diagnostic information for maintenance.
The drivers’ cabins are air-conditioned and have easy access to emergency exit doors.
These locomotives will be run on passenger routes with the technical support of EMD (Electro-Motive Diesel).
Europe has been using the JT42CWRM locomotive for over ten years, but now it has also started serving Egyptian rail markets.
The rest of the order will be delivered in the third quarter of 2009.
