High Speed 1 (HS1) has signed an agreement with the UK’s DB Schenker Rail to provide software development to the TVM parameters, to enable Class 92 freight locomotives to run between the Channel Tunnel and London.
HS1 will oversee the software development to ensure the modifications are available to all owners of Class 92 locos who want to use its infrastructure.
The two companies have also signed a track access agreement to allow DB Sachhenker to operate freight on HS1 line from 2010.
DB Schenker’s planning director Graham Smith said: “This initiative will allow full-size European rail freight vehicles to move between the UK and the rest of Europe. It will open up a massive market for cross-Channel rail freight, delivering major environmental and economic benefits.”
