German company Vossloh Locomotives has signed a €140m contract for the delivery of 44 DE 18 diesel-electric locomotives to France-based Akiem.
The new trains will be produced at Vossloh Locomotives' new facility in Kiel Suchsdorf and shipping is planned to take place in 2018.
Vossloh's chairman of the executive board Dr Hans Schabert said: “The order is a great sales success for Vossloh Locomotives and provides our new location in Kiel Suchsdorf with a very good basic capacity utilisation for several years.
“We will move into the new facilities starting in fall of 2016.”
Vossloh Locomotives' managing director Thomas Schwichtenberg said: “We are very pleased with the confidence Akiem has shown in us and with this major order, which proves that our locomotives are top performers.”
The company is part of Vossloh’s Transportation division and during the course of its strategic focus on the rail infrastructure business agreed in 2014, it proposes to sell the activities of the business area by end of next year.
Vossloh Locomotives is focused on producing diesel-hydraulic and diesel-electric industrial, shunting and main-line locomotives in Europe.
