Leasing company Touax Rail is set to deliver the first series of high-capacity sliding-wall rail wagons to German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen as part of an order for 300 units.
This delivery follows successful trials of two prototypes, which Volkswagen received in the first half of this year.
In October 2013, Volkswagen selected Touax Rail for the delivery of the fleet and Wagony Swidnica /Greenbrier Europe was assigned for the construction and fabrication, based on a tender released for the development, and lease of the wagons in summer 2013.
The first series of the wagons is expected to be delivered by the end of this month.
Touax business development and marketing director Louis Pastré said: "Touax is proud to be a partner also for the ”Inbound Logistics”, as for many years we are already actively involved in the ”Outbound Logistics” with the transportation of the brand-new automobiles on Laaers wagons.
"The partnership with Volkswagen coincides with our marketing strategy to lease more wagons to industrial clients, who are interested in profitable and long-term agreements."
The fleet of 300 wagons with side covers will have a minimum inner-height of 3m for the loading of special mesh box pallets.
Touax investment for the new two-axle sliding wall wagons marks step towards its diversification of its wagon types interim of more than 8000 wagons in Europe.
A partnership between Greenbrier and Touax initiated the project; the former showcased the two prototypes at the InnoTrans 2014 in Berlin, Germany.
