Thales Canada Transportation Solutions has signed a contract with Swiss firm HUBER+SUHNER to supply trackside and on-board antennas and equipment for the New York City subway.
Under the contract, HUBER+SUHNER will provide Sencity spot-M Yagi antennas, rolling stock Spot-S antennas and with radio frequency (RF) cable assemblies.
The equipment will be used to build the train-to-track radio network for trackside and rolling stock on the New York City Transit Flushing Line 7.
The Spot-S antennas will be installed in the front car of the train and connected to an access point with RF cables assemblies.
The Sencity Spot-M Yagi antennas will be placed in tunnels, where directional functionality and high gain is required to support the Thales-deployed wireless communication systems.
HUBER+SUHNER North America sales director Scott Annis said: "Thales Canada had a requirement for a high performance, narrow-beam trackside antenna for use in the many tunnels that the New York City Subway trains travel through and our Yagi antenna fulfilled that need."
The control system benefits from enhanced information, such as train performance data and continuous determination of train location and speed.
HUBER+SUHNER may deliver more antennas and other products for additional projects worldwide in collaboration with Thales.
