Strukton Rolling Stock has supplied traction inverters, auxiliary inverters and battery chargers for vehicles that will operate on the new line 17 of São Paulo monorail in Brazil.
The power systems, which are designed and manufactured in the Netherlands, are being installed in the monorail vehicles made by Malaysia-based urban transit systems provider Scomi Rail.
A consortium of Grupo MPE, Andrade Gutierrez, CR Almeida and Scomi Rail built the new Sao Paulo line 17 that will be operated by Metro Sao Paulo (Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo).
Strukton rolling stock director Gert Kwikkers said: "It is an ongoing effort to remain ahead and create valuable systems for our customers.
"We are obviously very pleased to continue our good relationship with Scomi Rail and Grupo MPE as leading consortium partner, and we are delighted with this step in the important Brazilian market."
The installed equipment includes Strukton’s ultra-lightweight power modules, which are already in use in the Kuala Lumpur, Toulouse and Amsterdam monorails.
Scomi Rail will deliver the first batch of 14 trains installed with Strukton’s auxiliary power supply equipment in the first half of next year.
Delivery for the first set of 14 trains will commence in the first half of 2014.
