Global transaction platform developer SilverRail Technologies has purchased the Journey Planning business and Integrated Public Transport Information System (IPTIS) solution from Jeppesen, a division of Boeing.

IPTIS powers more than 75% of all rail searches in the UK, and claims to be the only rail search and journey planning tool in the country.

SilverRail’s global transaction platform will soon allow the IPTIS product to offer low cost, accurate search functionality to the passenger rail industry across Europe.

"This strategic acquisition is game-changing for the industry."

The acquisition is part of SilverRail’s efforts to provide its consumers with a single source to plan and book rail journeys across the world.

The group will assess travellers plans and book complex rail trips in a single purchase. It will also offer all the tools rail carriers and travel retailers need in order to communicate with their customers.

With operations in the UK, US and Australia, the combined entity will employ more than 60 staff.

SilverRail co-founder and CEO Aaron Gowell said: "This strategic acquisition is game-changing for the industry, as well as an excellent business and cultural fit.

"As an IPTIS customer ourselves, we know the team well and believe combining our vision to create air-like search and booking quality for rail, across regions and around the globe, will be seamless."

Through its global distribution platform, SilverCore, the company connects rail operators and travel sellers to aggregate rail content into a single, unified system through direct supplier connections, standardising the search, booking, and fulfilment processes.

Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
