UK security and surveillance systems developer Petards has won a contract to supply its eyeTrain CCTV systems to Siemens Mobility Division.
Petards won the £2m contract under a framework agreement, which provides an opportunity to the company to supply Siemens' rail vehicle business worldwide with its train-related products and services.
The eyeTrain on-board digital CCTV systems will be fitted to new Desiro City Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) trains that are being built by Siemens.
Petards chairman Raschid Abdullah said: “We are delighted that Petards has secured yet another key contract under the global framework agreement with Siemens.
“This provides us with yet another exciting rail project, which further enhances our position in the rail industry and significantly strengthens the group’s present order book for delivery in 2017 and 2018.”
With the new equipment in place, the trains and their drivers will have improved capability in areas of security and surveillance through internal and external CCTV coverage of saloon areas combined with pantograph, forward-facing and track debris monitoring.
Under the contract, engineering activities are set to start immediately.
The first equipment deliveries will be made at the end of the first quarter of next year and the project is expected to be completed during 2018.
Petards's eyeTrain technology provides products for onboard train video and sensing solutions, including driver only operation systems, passenger counting systems, saloon and drivers view video and condition-based monitoring.
