Advanced security and surveillance system provider Petards has secured a contract extension from Bombardier Transportation to provide the eyeTrain on-board digital CCTV systems for its Electrostar electrical multiple unit (EMU) trains.

The latest £1.5m contract is an extension of the agreement signed in October 2013, and will involve the delivery of additional sets of equipment.

Under this project, Petards eyeTrain saloon and Driver Only Operation (DOO) CCTV systems will be installed on the new four-car Bombardier Electrostar trains being built for Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR).

Petards chairman Raschid Abdullah said: "We are pleased that Bombardier has again selected Petards technology to incorporate onto these new Class 387/2 Bombardier Electrostar trains, and we look forward to working closely with them on this project.

"The latest £1.5m contract is an extension of the agreement signed in October 2013."

"We believe that this contract award is another example of the growth opportunity available to enable Petards to develop its business in this exciting market sector."

Delivery of the equipment is expected to start in the first half of 2015, and will be completed later in the year.

In November, Bombardier signed a $227m contract with GTR to deliver 108 new rail cars for operations on the Gatwick Express.

As part of this contract, Bombardier will deliver 27 Electrostar four-car trains. The trains will be built in the company’s facility in Derby, UK, and are expected to be operational in 2016.
