The UK’s Transport for London (TfL) has signed a contract with Hochtief to refit the new Waterloo & City line Bank station entrance.

The Waterloo & City line station’s entrance ‘box’ is an underground structure that will enable the installation of four new escalators, two new lifts and a new ticket hall.

This construction work is part of a £57m redevelopment project of the Bank/Monument interchange and the wider Bank Station Capacity Upgrade project.

"The step-free Waterloo & City line entrance and ticket hall form a key part of our upgrade plans for Bank, one of London’s busiest stations."

The new entrance box will give passengers a direct access to the Waterloo and City Line from Walbrook Square.

London Underground capital programme director David Waboso said: "The award of this contract is an important step on our journey to deliver a bigger and better Bank station that can meet the challenge of increasing demand and help to provide quicker and easier journeys for customers.

The redevelopment of the northern line part of the interchange, which is an upcoming project of TfL, will involve construction of a new southbound tunnel on the Northern line, interchange tunnels and an additional station entrance and step-free access to Northern line platforms.

The new box will be delivered to London Underground in mid-2015, with the final fitting scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017.
