Hill International’s joint venture (JV) has received a QR157m ($43.1m) contract extension from Qatar Railways to continue providing project management services in connection with the Green Line.
One of four major lines of the new Doha Metro transit system, Green Line runs east from Al Mansoura to Al Riffa in the west and passes through Education City.
The extension has been agreed for a period of 30 months.
In 2012, the JV comprising Astad engineering consultancy and project management company and Hill initially secured a $59m contract for four years to look after the construction phase. Hill has an 80% interest in the JV.
As the Green Line passes through Education City, it is also known as the Education Line.
Other stops of Green Line include Hamad Hospital, Al Shaqab and the upcoming Qatar National Library.
The Green Line will have 11 stations over approximately 22km and is expected to have a capacity to accommodate 140,000 passenger trips a day by 2021.
Hill International Project Management Group regional president (Middle East) Mohammed Al Rais said: "This contract extension is a reflection of Qatar Railways' confidence in the Hill team.
"We are honoured that they continue to turn to Hill for our support on such an important project."
In May, Qatar Railways completed 100km of tunneling across the Doha Metro project, which means that 90% of tunneling was achieved, with 11km more required to complete all underground sections for the project.
Complex rail systems installation is set to start later this year.
