The Government of Victoria in Australia has selected five architects to present their designs for the transformation of Frankston Station.

A total of 39 architects submitted their design for the new precinct as part of a competition.

From these, the five architects shortlisted are Luke Farrugia and Andrew Shaper, Grimshaw, Genton, Cullinan Ivanov and Supermanouvre were selected by a jury chaired by Victoria Government architect Jill Garner and will now work to produce a detailed design concept.

Victoria Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said: “We’re rebuilding Frankston Station to make it bigger and better than ever before, and we’re doing it with the help of the local community and the best architectural minds from across the country.

“I want to congratulate the finalists for making it this far, and wish them luck for the final stage of this exciting competition.”

The successful entrant will be assigned the role of project architect for the station rebuild work.

The winner as well as preferred design for the Frankston Station will be announced in March next year, following which construction will start.

"We’re rebuilding Frankston Station to make it bigger and better than ever before."

Rebuilding Frankston station is part of the government’s A$63m transformation programme of the surrounding precinct.

Improvement works have already started to give Young Street a revamp and are expected to be complete by April next year.

The A$13m project to modernise Young Street between Wells and Beach streets started in October and is managed by VicRoads.

Works will be carried out by infrastructure, engineering and construction company Seymour Whyte.

This improvement project will provide better connection with the Frankston Station precinct and surrounding facilities.
