UK-based steel and mining firm EVRAZ has received a compliance certificate from the Register of Certification on the Federal Railway Transport (RS FzhT) to produce DT-350 R-65 head-hardened rails in Russia.
EVRAZ is the first company in Russia and CIS to get approval for the production and supply of DT-350 R-65 head-hardened rails.
Featuring an overall length of up to 100m, the DT-350 R-65 rails allow efficient maintenance and repair technologies, ensuring high performance.
The new hardening system substantially increases the durability of the rails, while reducing railway maintenance costs and providing improved safety and speed.
Russian Railway Research Institute carried out the test loop of EVRAZ ZSMK Rail and Beam Shop head-hardened rails for the certification.
EVRAZ railway products division vice-president and head Ilya Shirokobrod said: "Obtaining this certificate is an important milestone for EVRAZ as well as for the entire Russian railway industry.
"We are now ready for mass production of this unique product, which will allow us to satisfy the demand of our key client, the Russian Railways.
"Furthermore, we will be able to lay the basis for the establishment of a high-speed railway network in Russia."
EVRAZ believes that its head-hardened rails have good prospects in terms of export, and will be able to compete with other international manufacturers.
