Evolvi Rail Systems and Chiltern Railways have jointly introduced the UK’s first plain paper train ticketing system.
The system, which is a pilot project currently available only for Chiltern’s corporate passengers, allows customers to printing their own plain paper ticket for Chiltern’s ‘business zone’ fares when booked through a travel management company (TMC) using the EvolviNG online platform.
The system is designed as an extension to the existing Evolvi fulfilment options, such as kiosk ticket printing and ticket-on-departure (TOD).
Evolvi Rail Systems director of trade relations Jon Reeve said: "The pilot involves Evolvi, Chiltern Railways and a number of our TMC customers, and we will be monitoring passenger response with interest given the government’s stated desire to see the wider introduction of smarter ticketing technology."
Corporate passengers can use an A4 printed paper ticket, which also acts as a seat reservation, to travel on Chiltern’s Mainline Premium Economy Business Zone service between the West Midlands and London.
Chiltern Railways head of sales and customer relations John Davidson said: "The ability to print a paper ticket in the office or at home certainly brings the concept of smart ticketing one step closer."
Evolvi Rail Systems has a 55% share of the UK corporate agency rail booking and fulfilment market.
