Eversholt Rail has signed a two-year contract with Alstom to carry out upgrade works on its 40 First ScotRail Class 334 trains.

The contract is worth £36.1m and aims to provide a better environment and improved reliability for passengers travelling on the trains that run between Airdrie and Bathgate, Scotland. Work on the contract will begin in 2015.

Eversholt Rail chief executive officer Mary Kenny said: "This investment of £36.1m in our Class 334 is our third fleet upgrade for Scotland and once again demonstrates the importance of Scotland to our business and our commitment to delivering the best value and highest quality proposition to our customers and rail passengers."

The Glasgow Traincare Centre in Polmadie, the Alstom Modernisation team in Preston and Manchester Traincare Centre will join together for the renovation works.

Upgrade works to be carried out under this project include the installation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, plug sockets by passenger seats and a CCTV system, the replacement of cab and saloon doors, as well as the fitting of an Ethernet backbone to prepare carriages for future Wi-Fi.

A supplier for many of the UK’s leading train operating companies, the Eversholt Rail group owns approximately 3,500 passenger trains, in addition to 1,000 freight wagons and locomotives.
