Plastic composite technologies provider AXION International Holdings has secured a purchase order for its Ecotrax recycled plastic rail ties from a major Australian rail line.
Produced from the company’s recycled plastic formulation, Ecotrax composite rail ties do not rot or absorb moisture, and are resistant to insect infestation. They also meet all Maintenance-of-Way Association specifications.
AXION president and CEO Steve Silverman said: "High-quality wood is becoming increasingly difficult and costly to find and maintain in Australia.
"Traditional wood preservatives used in the US are not used in Australia, thus making the wood more susceptible to rot and insect attack. Our 100%-recycled plastic ECOTRAX ties are resistant to these elements".
The rail line is planning to install Ecotrax in turnout applications in New South Wales for the spot replacement of wood. They will be inserted to replace existing wood ties, on an as needed basis, as wood is prone to rot and insect damage.
