Argentina’s urban infrastructure company Subterráneos de Buenos Aires/Sociedad del Estado (SBASE) has selected Siemens for a €30m project to enhance the signalling and depot operations control centre.
The contract also includes the delivery of a new passenger information system for subway line C in the capital city.
The 5km-long C line with nine stations links the northern and southern regions of the city and carries up to 340,000 passengers daily.
Under this project, Siemens will install its Trainguard MT train control system, which monitors train speeds, on line C of the metro system to enhance punctuality and train intervals with improved safety.
The automated system using the line data will provide departure and arrival for trains to ensure punctuality.
The system will be handled by Controlguide Vicos operations control system, while radio transmission will make use of the Siemens Airlink solution.
Sicas electronic interlockings will offer safe settings on the routes and signalling technology will be controlled through the operations control centre in Constitución.
Commissioning of the line is scheduled for the end of 2016.
In 2007, Siemens had supplied the signalling technology and power supply systems for the 6km-long subway line H and communication-based train control technology (CBTC) during its 4km extension in 2012.
Siemens will also supply a rectifier substation, medium-voltage switchgear, a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor the traction power network and the catenary system for the electrification of the extended line.
Buenos Aires’s metro opened in 1913 and the Latin America’s oldest subway system controls six lines with a total route length of 53km and 83 stations.
