French company Alstom has secured a €100m contract to provide maintenance support for Grand Central Railway Company’s Class 180 trains in the UK.
Under the contract, the company will offer support for a period of 10 years beginning January next year. The company will provide specialised materials and parts, as well as technical and engineering support to Grand Central enabling fleet maintenance.
Initially, the support team will be based at Alstom’s Chester Traincare Centre, co-locating in 2018 with the Grand Central fleet operations team at its East Coast mainline maintenance location.
Alstom's UK & Ireland managing director Nick Crossfield said: “We’re delighted to be extending our contract with Grand Central and even happier that our support for the Class 180 trains is set to continue.
“It’s important that they are well maintained so that passengers can continue to enjoy the benefits the trains offer.”
At present, Grand Central Railway operates five Class 180 trains between London Kings Cross and Yorkshire and the North East. Next year, the company plans to expand to 10 trains.
