An Alstom-led consortium, Russia’s RZD International and the Institute Mikhajlo Pupin have signed a €10m contract to deliver the signalling system on part of the Belgrade-Panchevo line in Serbia.

The consortium includes Serbian Institute Mihajlo Pupin, Belgrade, and Alstom Transport subsidiaries in Italy and Russia.

Following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed earlier, the contract falls within the European Railway Corridor development project, which is funded by Russia and Serbia with a share of 85% and 15% respectively.

This is part of a five-year project that already started its first phase and Alstom will deliver the Smartlock 400 electronic interlocking system along the 16km line from Panchevo Bridge to Panchevo main station.

"This project will open the door to further synergies between RZD and Alstom."

Alstom’s remote diagnostic system enables greater network availability, increased traffic handling capacity and operational safety with low maintenance expenditure.

Alstom CIS region senior vice-president Thibault Desteract said: "This project will open the door to further synergies between RZD and Alstom to serve our customers in and beyond the 1,520mm gauge market."
