A rail line has opened on a commuter network in Wellington, New Zealand, to reduce train congestion.

The line will transport half of all incoming trains in the mornings and half of all outgoing trains in the evenings from the region’s train lines to Wellington platforms.

The line is part of a NZ$500m (US$368m), two-year upgrade of Wellington’s railway network, according to stuff.co.nz.

The upgrade involves renewing overhead wires, new substations and signalling systems, building new track, electrification and platform upgrades.
