UK Minister of State for Transport Theresa Villiers has said that ‘super lorries’ will not be permitted to travel on UK roads.
The large lorries are seen as a threat to the rail haulage industry because of their increased load compared with regular road haulage vehicles.
Although there are no plans to mandate their legality on a Europe-wide basis, Villiers, speaking at the Annual Rail Freight Group Conference in London, said the government would resist their approval should it arise in the future.
