Walsh Construction has received a $205m contract from the Metropolitan Council to construct a seven-mile section of the Central Corridor light rail line.
Construction on this portion at St. Paul is scheduled to begin in August and is expected to open in 2014.
The US-based firm is expected to build the track, construct 14 stations, improve intersections and pedestrian crossings and reconstruct streets where the track will run.
The project is intended to connect the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul through the University of Minnesota campus.
The majority of the Minneapolis construction is projected to begin in spring 2011, according to twincities.bizjournals.com.
The transit improvement project is expected to receive funds from the US Federal Government.
